Did anyone read the Metro today to find that now His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid – The ruler of Dubai – is a suspect for the 911 terrorist attacks. But sorry guys, it was an error!
Metro would like to apologise for an error in today’s edition of the newspaper (Friday 9th March).
A photograph of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has been incorrectly used instead of a picture of terror suspect Kahlid Sheikh Mohammed.
The incorrect image accompanies a story about the Guantanamo hearings on page 21. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is suspected of masterminding the September the 11th attacks on the US.
Hilarious! That editor should be given a shoebox for his things and shown the door out by security. I guess all A-rabs look alike.
HUH! this reminded me of 20/20 episode I watched earlier tonite where they revealed how the FBI misused and abused the patriot act. Apparently they were monitoring innocent citizens activities without getting clearance from a judge as the law says. The man who was in charge of trainning took the whole blame and said ” I am sorry, it’s all my fault really for not training them propertly” and that was that no other consequences or accountability. Now I bet this editor didn’t even get slap on that hand. :(
Mistakes happen…i mean, we are only human and no man never errs. So long as it isnt a life threatening error, it can and should be forgiven… Give the editor the benefit of doubt
Aya, It seems like they simply checked their library of pictures for an Arab guy and puplished it, only if the names weren’t similar – Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is the guy they wanted.
Nahja, After prying on innocent citizens for so long, the only thing they could afford to say is a “Sorry”! But this in the Metro is serious!
Wasmaniac, yes we are only Human, not infallible, but in Journalism this is a grave mistake. This editor has committed a serious blunder by posting the picture of Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al-Makhtoum as a Guantanamo detainee. I wonder where he got his sources from. Also before going to the final stages of Printing, the whole paper is checked for errors isn’t it? how come no one noticed it?
It does not matter whether its checked and rechecked…that sheikh maktoum guy is not one of the most recognizable people around, at least not to me…but even if he was, we cant really say there is no room for error….
How come no one noticed? Are you seriously suggesting foul play? What does a respectable newspaper gain from making what you call “grave mistakes”… I think we have a lot to accuse the western media of, but in these case, you are really creating a hill out of an anthill
Being the ruler of Dubai, The vice president of UAE as well as having one of the highest stakes in British Horse racing, he is one of the most recognizable Arab leaders today. I am not suggesting foul play at all, simply laughing at the blunder and idiocy of the editors.
Given the smear campaign against Associated Press’ 7 days, by the government owned media in Dubai, I wouldn’t be suprised if this is Associated showing just what it could do to the image of Dubai in its most important market…
